Blue Mountain Forest State Scenic Corridor, State park scenic corridor along Old Oregon Trail Highway, United States

Blue Mountain Forest State Scenic Corridor protects mature conifer forests featuring western larch, Engelmann spruce, lodgepole pine, and grand fir along a stretch of Interstate 84 in northeastern Oregon. The corridor preserves this forest landscape across a significant portion of the highway route.

Explorer David Thompson named the Blue Mountains in 1811 after observing their distinctive blue appearance against the sky while traveling toward the Columbia River. The mountains became a notable landmark along early trading and migration routes through the region.

The corridor maintains undisturbed examples of native plants and animals, including white-tailed deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and mountain lions in their natural habitat.

The area is open for day visits year-round, though campfire restrictions apply during summer months. Those planning to explore forest trails should prepare for seasonal weather changes and variable ground conditions.

This represents one of the few remaining sections of old-growth conifer forest still standing between the Utah border and The Dalles along Interstate 84. Such forest segments have become scarce due to historical logging and land development in the corridor region.
