The facility opened in October 2007 after a $140 million investment, replacing an old Southern Pacific Railroad maintenance yard at the same location.
The facility employs 150 staff members working across three shifts, maintaining the railroad infrastructure that connects San Francisco to Gilroy communities.
Workers access different parts of the facility through a 250-foot underground tunnel, ensuring safety while moving around active train tracks.
The maintenance building contains a 25,000-pound capacity bridge crane that enables indoor servicing of train components regardless of weather conditions.
