Carite Lake, lake in Puerto Rico
Carite Lake is a large reservoir set among the hills of Puerto Rico near Guayama, surrounded by dense forest and green landscape. The water is calm and clear in many spots, with simple walking paths along the shoreline where visitors can stroll or sit and take in the view.
The lake was built in 1913 by damming a small river to store water for irrigation and drinking water for local people. Since then, it has supplied the region and remains an important part of the local landscape and history.
The name Carite comes from the local area around the lake. It has served for generations as a gathering place where people fish, picnic, and spend quiet time in nature.
The lake is easily accessible from the town of Guayama, with simple paths along the shore suitable for walking. Best to visit in early morning or late afternoon, especially when the air feels fresh and temperatures are cooler than midday.
Early in the morning, mist drifts over the water surface, giving the scene a soft, dreamy quality. These moments are especially good for photography and watching birds and wildlife begin their day.
