The Carnegie Center for Art and History occupies a Beaux-Arts building with exhibits spanning local history and contemporary art collections.

The center opened in 1904 as a Carnegie library with 11,125 books and transformed into an art museum after extensive renovations in 1998.

The center maintains permanent exhibitions about the Underground Railroad and Lucy Higgs Nichols, a Civil War nurse from 1838 to 1915.

Located at 201 East Spring Street in New Albany, Indiana, the center provides free admission to all exhibitions and educational programs.

The building, designed by Clarke & Loomis architects in 1902, demonstrates the classical architectural elements of Carnegie library constructions.
