The church was founded in 1882 to serve Italian immigrants from Sorrento and Procida. A major fire in 1951 caused significant damage, which was later repaired.

Daily morning masses are held here, with additional services on weekends. The entrance on Carroll Street is easy to locate and visitors are welcome inside.
Mother Cabrini opened a school within the parish that provided education for children of immigrants. This school became an important part of how the community supported young people.
