Comet, Wooden roller coaster in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
The Comet was a wooden roller coaster in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, measuring about 3000 feet in length with heights reaching about 65 feet. The ride offered a journey of roughly two minutes at speeds up to 55 miles per hour and accommodated passengers in multiple trains during operation.
The ride was constructed in 1946 using components from an earlier coaster attraction. It operated at Lincoln Park until the park closed in 1987.
The Comet served as a major draw at Lincoln Park, attracting families from the region and shaping how local residents spent their leisure time over the decades. The amusement park became a place where people gathered to have fun and make memories together.
The North Dartmouth location was easily accessible by car for visitors. The park is no longer active, but the ride's history remains of interest to amusement park enthusiasts.
After the park's closure, the ride was demolished in 2012, and portions of its wooden structure were salvaged and transformed into furniture and decorative pieces. This repurposing of the original materials gave the historic structure a second life in homes and businesses.
