Daniel McCook House
Daniel McCook House, Civil War historic house in Carrollton, United States.
The Daniel McCook House is an early 19th century residence in Carrollton featuring Federal architectural style with symmetrical windows, a centered door, and a light sandstone arch at one corner. The structure has a hip roof with two large chimneys flanking each side and occupies a small lot adjacent to Carrollton Square.
The house was built in 1837 and belonged to Daniel McCook Senior, a ranking Union Army officer. His family gained military prominence when several of his sons held command positions during the Civil War.
Period furnishings and objects inside show how the McCook family lived during the 1800s. Visitors can observe details of daily life for a prosperous family during the Civil War era.
The building now operates as a museum managed by the Ohio History Connection and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors should know this is a historic private residence with modest rooms and access may have limitations.
The house is closely tied to the McCook family, whose members became some of the Union's most prominent military commanders during the Civil War. This family produced an unusually high number of officers who shaped major battles, making this a fascinating stop for Civil War history.
