Orpheum Theater, Historic performing arts center in downtown Omaha, US
The Orpheum Theater is a theatre and performing arts center in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, with a main hall that seats around 2,600 people. Located on 16th Street, it also includes additional spaces used for a range of events beyond the main stage.
The building opened in 1927 as part of a larger bank complex and first operated as a movie theater. Over the following decades it shifted toward live performance, becoming one of Nebraska's main venues for touring shows and concerts.
The Orpheum Theater draws audiences from across the region for Broadway productions, concerts, and dance shows. Before and after performances, the decorated lobby becomes a gathering spot where people linger and take in the surroundings.
The theater is easy to reach on foot from most of downtown Omaha, and street parking is available nearby. Tickets can be bought online or at the box office, but the venue does not accept cash payments.
The Orpheum sits inside a building that was originally designed around a bank, which gives some of its back areas an unusual layout. The stage was later expanded to fit modern touring productions, even though the original auditorium has remained largely unchanged.
