Drake Court Historic District, Historic district in Midtown, Omaha, United States.
Drake Court Historic District is a residential area in Midtown with twenty-two apartment buildings built between 1916 and 1921 in Georgian Revival and Colonial Revival styles. The complex contains 216 total units, including single-room apartments and larger layouts, each with private bathrooms.
William and George Drake established their Realty Construction Company and began developing the complex starting with four buildings in 1915. The remaining structures were added over the next several years as the residential project took shape.
The district displays the kind of consistent street design with symmetrical facades and marble floors that shaped how Omaha once looked. Visitors can notice this craftsmanship in the entryway details and hallways.
The district is easy to walk through since the buildings are grouped closely together and the surrounding streets clearly define the area. Late morning or early afternoon is a good time to visit, as the light best highlights the architectural details.
The district gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, affirming its broader historical importance. When boundaries were reviewed in 2014, three more buildings were added to the official protected list.
