First Church of Christ, Scientist, Beaux-Arts church in Elliot Park, Minneapolis, United States.

The First Church of Christ, Scientist is a Beaux-Arts structure on East 15th Street in Minneapolis featuring deep porticos with fluted columns and a pedimented gable. The facade displays characteristic design elements that define this architectural style and give the building its formal appearance.

Architect Septimus J. Bowler designed this structure in 1898, establishing one of the earliest Christian Science churches in the western United States. The project marked a significant moment in the spread of this religious movement across the American continent.

The structure reflects the expansion of the Christian Science movement across America and drew followers from Minneapolis and surrounding areas. Its design showed the prosperity and values of this religious community during its active years.

The building sits near Elliot Park and is visible from the street, though it is no longer in active use. Visitors should plan for exterior viewing since interior access may be limited, making photographs the best way to appreciate the architecture.

The building earned National Register of Historic Places protection in 1986 yet faced a troubled future for decades. After sitting empty and becoming the subject of preservation disputes, demolition occurred in 2022.
