Tashkent Tower, Television tower in Yunusabad, Uzbekistan
Tashkent Tower is a steel television structure in Yunusabad District that rises 375 meters (1,230 feet) above ground, making it the tallest building in Uzbekistan. The construction features three elevators that carry visitors up to an observation platform positioned at 97 meters (318 feet).
Construction began in 1978 during the Soviet era when Tashkent was developing as a major communication center. The structure started operating on January 15, 1985, becoming a symbol of technological progress in the region.
Locals refer to the structure as "Tashkentskaya Bashnya" and use it as a landmark when navigating through the city. The broadcast signals it sends out reach homes across the capital and into neighboring areas, making it part of daily routines for millions of people.
The observation platform offers views across the capital and toward the surrounding mountains on clear days. Visitors should note that access may depend on weather conditions, as strong winds can sometimes limit visits to the upper levels.
A weather station inside the structure continuously collects meteorological data for the region and relays information to forecasting services. The facility also serves as a communication hub for government departments, making it more than just a broadcast antenna.
