Uzbekistan Academy of Science, Research institution in Yashnabad District, Uzbekistan
The Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences is a large research complex in Tashkent's Yashnabad District, made up of a central building surrounded by several attached wings and standalone institutes. The grounds cover a considerable area and bring together laboratories, offices, and specialized facilities devoted to different scientific fields.
The institution was founded in 1943 as the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, making it one of the oldest organized research bodies in Central Asia. After independence in 1991, it was reorganized and took its current name.
The Academy is the main place in Uzbekistan where state-funded science takes place, and researchers from many fields work in separate institutes across the grounds. Each institute is dedicated to a specific subject, so the complex feels less like a single building and more like a small academic town.
The complex sits on Yahyo Gulomov Street and is open during regular weekday hours, though most buildings are accessible only to staff and pre-arranged visitors. Anyone wishing to visit the on-site museums or specific areas should reach out to the institution before arriving.
The grounds host 5 specialized museums covering different scientific subjects, and these are often overlooked by visitors who come only for the main building. The Academy also runs its own publishing house called Fan, which produces and distributes scientific literature across Uzbekistan.
