State museum of applied arts of Uzbekistan, Art museum in Yakkasaray district, Tashkent, Uzbekistan
The State Museum of Applied Arts is an art museum in Tashkent that displays over 7,000 pieces of traditional crafts. The collection includes embroidery, ceramics, jewelry, wood carvings, and decorative carpets from various periods.
The building was constructed in the late 19th century and initially served as a palace for diplomat Alexander Polovtsev. It was converted into a handicrafts museum in 1937.
The collection shows handicraft techniques from different regions of Uzbekistan. You can see the varying styles: ceramics from Rishtan, gold embroidery from Bukhara, and silk work from Margilan.
The museum is centrally located and open daily, giving you plenty of time to browse the collections. Plan to spend enough time exploring the workshop areas and the detailed pieces on display.
The building itself features Oriental architectural elements and decorative paintings created by master craftsmen Usta Arsankulov and Usta Shirin Muradov. These artistic details form an essential part of the visit.
