Oʻzbekiston Milliy bogʻidagi suv ombori, meer in Oezbekistan
The Oʻzbekiston Milliy bogʻidagi suv ombori is a water reservoir near Tashkent that collects and stores water for the city. The facility features two large artificial basins connected by bridges, reaching depths of about 6 meters (20 feet) and serving as the primary water source for the area.
The reservoir was constructed around 1940 and originally served as an excavation site where clay was extracted for brick production in earlier centuries. Over the decades it evolved into a critical water storage facility that supports the expanding city.
The site offers pathways and promenades around the basins where visitors can walk and explore the surroundings. During warmer months, people can swim, take boat rides, or use the waterside areas with seating and recreation spaces available along the shores.
The basin originated from a former clay pit where bricks were produced since the 18th century. Remnants of these brick-making activities still lie beneath the water surface, making the site a subtle witness to the city's development and industrial past.
