Nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan, Plánovaná jaderná elektrárna v Uzbekistánu

The nuclear power plant in Jizzakh region is a new facility under construction in Forish District that will house reactors for electricity generation. The site involves large-scale excavation work, with approximately 1.5 million cubic meters of earth being moved to create a 13-meter-deep foundation pit for the reactor structures.

Plans for a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan began with an agreement between Uzbekistan and Russia in 2017 to work together on nuclear energy. The construction contract for the current facility was signed in May 2024, with work starting that year and the first concrete pouring scheduled for March 2026.

The construction site is generally not open to the public, as active construction work and safety protocols are in place. It is best to view the area from a distance or visit any local information centers if available to learn about the project.

The RITM-200N reactor type was originally developed for Russian icebreakers and is being exported for the first time to a land-based power plant. This naval technology has been specially adapted to operate safely in Uzbekistan's land environment.
