Municipio Mariño, second-level administrative division in the Aragua State, Venezuela
Municipio Mariño is an administrative district in Aragua, Venezuela, with the town of Turmero as its main center. The area spans nearly 500 square kilometers and includes five districts called parroquias: Turmero, Alfredo Pacheco Aponte, Chuao, Samán de Güere, and Arévalo Aponte.
The area was originally known as La Candelaria in 1650 and was part of Valencia. After reorganization in 1812, Turmero became an administrative center, and in 1848 the region gained provincial status before becoming a state in 1864.
The residents of Mariño, called Mariñenses, gather regularly at local events and festivals where traditional music, dance, and food reflect their customs. These gatherings show how the community maintains strong connections through shared celebrations and daily routines that emphasize family and togetherness.
The district is located about 65 kilometers from Caracas and is easily accessible by car or bus. The closest airport, Los Tacariguas, is about 22 kilometers away, making it convenient for travelers arriving in the region.
Chuao, one of its five districts, is recognized worldwide for producing exceptional chocolate known for its distinctive flavor. This small area has become one of the most notable cocoa producers and draws international attention for this specialty.
