Cayo borracho

Cayo Borracho is the northernmost island in Morrocoy National Park, featuring white sand beaches and surrounding coral reefs. The small landmass sits in clear waters suitable for snorkeling and underwater exploration.

The island takes its name from the rocking motion of boats approaching its shores, resembling the swaying sensation associated with intoxication. Early seafarers applied this descriptive name based on their experiences navigating the waters nearby.

The island maintains strict access regulations to protect endangered sea turtles, allowing visitors only in designated sections with prior authorization.

Reaching the island requires arranging boat transportation from the mainland town of Chichiriviche, as no dock or facilities operate on the island itself. Planning ahead with local operators helps ensure a smooth visit and proper access to designated areas.
