Bình Dương, Province in southeastern Vietnam
Bình Dương is a province in southeastern Vietnam that spreads across flat terrain with scattered low mountains and hills, crossed by the Saigon and Đồng Nai rivers. The landscape shifts between alluvial plains, patches of forest, and industrial zones that line the main roads.
The province emerged in 1997 from parts of the former Sông Bé province during a nationwide reorganization of administrative boundaries. This change brought Thu Dau Mot forward as the new administrative center and combined several districts under a new name.
The name comes from an old administrative district and today connects mainly to industrial parks and modern settlements. Visitors encounter markets where vendors sell vegetables alongside handmade goods brought in from surrounding villages.
National Highway 13 runs north from Ho Chi Minh City and connects the larger towns with the provincial center in Thu Dau Mot. Buses operate regularly along this route, and the roads are mostly paved and easy to navigate.
Several workshop villages in the area have been making wooden shoes and lacquerware for generations using old techniques that visitors can often watch on site. The craftspeople usually work in open courtyards where each step of production becomes visible.
