Giác Lâm Pagoda, Buddhist temple in Tan Binh District, Vietnam.
Giác Lâm is a Buddhist temple in Ho Chi Minh City featuring three main halls arranged over approximately 65 meters, with a central ceremonial space containing numerous statues and religious artwork. This central area serves as both a prayer space and a display for devotional pieces from different periods.
The temple was founded in 1744 by a Chinese settler and received its present religious status in 1772 under a Buddhist abbot's guidance. This transition marked its shift from a dwelling place to an established sanctuary.
The temple displays religious figures from multiple traditions that visitors encounter upon entering the sanctuary. The mix of wooden and bronze sculptures creates a setting where Buddha, Bodhisattvas, and local folk deities coexist side by side.
The temple is located on Lac Long Quan Street and opens to visitors daily, with prayer times occurring at several points throughout the day. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and treat the space thoughtfully, especially when religious ceremonies are taking place.
A seven-story stupa on the grounds houses Buddhist relics within its structure. In the garden stands a tree planted from Sri Lanka in the 1950s that continues to grow there today.
