Dinh Binh Lake, lake in Vietnam
Dinh Binh Lake is a large reservoir created by a concrete dam over 50 meters high built across the Kon River, located about 70 kilometers west of Quy Nhon city. The dam regulates water flow and stores water for irrigation, flood control, and other uses serving Binh Dinh province.
Construction of the reservoir began in 2003 and was completed in 2009, marking the first use of roller-compacted concrete technology in Vietnam. The dam was built to control the Kon River's water flow and establish a stable water supply for the region's agricultural development.
The Bana people have inhabited this region for generations and shape the area with their customs and traditions. Visitors can experience their hand-woven textiles, music, and dances that reflect stories from their daily life.
The lake is accessible from Quy Nhon by heading west along a road that winds through rice fields and fruit orchards, requiring a few hours of travel. Boat rides across the water are available, and walking paths run along the shoreline, including a route up to the Doc Troi viewpoint offering views over the water and surrounding hills.
The reservoir was Vietnam's first project to use roller-compacted concrete technology, a specialized method that made dam construction faster and more efficient. This innovative approach later became a model for other water infrastructure projects across the country.
