Lalitpur

Lalitpur is a metropolitan city in the Kathmandu Valley situated at approximately 1,400 meters elevation, spanning roughly 37 square kilometers. The urban landscape contains numerous temples, courtyards, and architectural structures distributed across its neighborhoods.

According to tradition, the city was founded in the 3rd century BC and experienced significant architectural development during the Malla period. This medieval phase left lasting marks on the urban structure and cultural heritage.

According to local tradition, a farmer transported a deity called Rato Machhindranath from another region to end a severe drought. This event remains remembered as the origin of the city's name and connects religious belief to the place's founding.
