Arghakhanchi, Administrative district in Lumbini Province, Nepal.
Arghakhanchi is an administrative district in Lumbini Province covering roughly 1,200 square kilometers of terrain. The land ranges from lowland areas to mountain peaks, with Sandhikharka Municipality serving as the main administrative center.
The area formed from two former principalities called Argha and Khanchi that were conquered by the Gorkha kingdom in 1786. These two entities were later merged into a single administrative district.
The area is home to Hill Brahmins, Chhetris, and Magars who maintain their own traditions and ways of living. You can see how their daily routines blend with the landscape, where farming and local crafts shape community life.
The area is accessible through a road network connecting it to neighboring districts, making travel relatively straightforward. The dry season offers the best conditions for getting around the mountainous terrain and visiting communities.
Nearly half of this area consists of forest, making it an important green space in the region. The Mahabharat mountain range cuts through the district, and two major rivers flow across its landscape.
