Ramagrama stupa, Buddhist pilgrimage stupa in Parasi District, Nepal
Ramagrama stupa is a Buddhist shrine in Parasi District that stands approximately 7 meters tall with a hemispherical dome and finial at its peak. The structure measures roughly 23.5 meters across its base and preserves the traditional architectural style of ancient Buddhist monuments.
After Buddha's cremation, his remains were divided among eight kingdoms, with this shrine receiving a portion of these sacred relics during the Mauryan period. The monument originated as a repository for these venerated remains.
The site draws Buddhist practitioners from different regions who gather to pray and meditate together. Visitors come during festival times and holidays to engage in spiritual practices within this shared sacred space.
The site is accessible year-round and guided tours can be arranged to learn more about the history and significance of the place. It is helpful to check local customs beforehand since this is an important location for worshippers.
This is the only surviving original shrine containing Buddha's relics that has never been looted or destroyed. Local tradition holds that it is protected by supernatural guardians.
