Parsa District

The district spans 1,353 square kilometers across the Terai plain, with Birgunj serving as its headquarters and main economic center.

The district earned its name from the Parsagadhi fort, where Nepali Gorkhali soldiers achieved victory against British forces in historical battles.

The population of 649,397 residents communicates primarily in Bhojpuri at 78 percent, followed by Nepali at 6 percent and Maithili at 5 percent.

The district contains one metropolitan city, three urban municipalities, and ten rural municipalities, managing local governance and community services.

According to the 2021 census data, the district recorded 338,286 male residents and 316,185 female residents across 113,080 households.
