Cabra Island lighthouse, Colonial lighthouse on Cabra Island, Philippines
Cabra Island Lighthouse is a navigational tower on an island in Occidental Mindoro, Philippines, with a white brick structure rising 20 meters high. The base includes quarters for the lighthouse keeper and represents Spanish colonial architectural design.
Spanish authorities built this navigational structure in 1889 to guide vessels entering Philippine waters from the South China Sea. The tower marked a key point for maritime navigation toward Manila Bay.
The lighthouse displays original Spanish inscriptions and architectural elements that reflect the maritime heritage of the Philippine colonial period. Visitors can notice these traces of European influence throughout the structure and its decorative details.
The island is accessible only by boat from Tagbac port, with regular departures in the early afternoon and returns the next morning. Visitors should prepare for a journey of several hours and expect limited facilities on site.
A modern, solar-powered replacement tower stands about 100 meters from the original structure. The historic building retains its 19th-century copper-clad dome and ventilation features.
