Milentija Monastery

Milentija Monastery is a medieval religious structure in Brus featuring a church built according to traditional Serbian design principles with semicircular apses and a dome over the nave. Today only walls approximately 2 meters high remain standing, while decorative stone elements have been preserved in museums in Belgrade and Kruševac.

Founded around 1430 during the reign of Serbian Despot Stefan and Đurađ, this monastery was potentially established by nobleman Radič Postupović. This founding period marked a significant moment when monasteries served as important centers of faith and culture in the region.

The stone carvings here show deep reliefs that stand apart from typical Morava school patterns, revealing how local craftspeople expressed their skills. These decorative elements reflect the artistic choices of their time and continue to be noticed by visitors today.

The site is best reached on foot, and visitors should be prepared for rural paths and terrain that may vary with seasons. It is best to wear sturdy footwear and approach the remains respectfully, as this is a protected cultural monument.

Archaeological excavations here uncovered a child skeleton, suggesting historical burial practices connected to the construction phase. Such findings hint at religious or cultural traditions rooted in Serbian folklore practices.
