Drenča Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Drenča, Serbia.
Drenča Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in the Zupa region featuring a church with a trefoil base combined with an inscribed cross design. The structure is crowned by a slim cupola supported by four central pillars at its core.
The monastery was founded in 1379 by Dorotheus of Hilandar and his son Danilo. The founders received substantial land grants in the surrounding region to support the monastery's establishment and growth.
The monastery serves as a gathering place for Orthodox Christians in the surrounding region, maintaining religious traditions that have been practiced for centuries. Visitors can experience how these customs continue to shape the daily life of the local community.
The monastery is located about 5 kilometers north of Aleksandrovac in Central Serbia and can be reached fairly easily. A comprehensive restoration between 2003 and 2006 has ensured the buildings are well maintained.
The exterior features polygonal shapes for the vestry and deacon apses, while the interior maintains semi-circular designs in these same areas. This contrast between outer and inner geometry is immediately noticeable when exploring the building.
