Rudenica Monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Aleksandrovac, Serbia
Rudenica Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery featuring a church dedicated to Saint Elijah. The church displays the Morava architectural style typical of medieval Serbian religious buildings, with a distinctive interior layout.
The monastery was founded in the late 14th century by local lord Vukašin and his wife Vukosava, extending into the early 15th century. Religious paintings inside were later commissioned and financed by a prominent Despot of the era.
The monastery remains an active center for Orthodox worship and celebrations throughout the year. It draws believers and serves as a focal point for community gatherings during important religious occasions.
The monastery is located near Aleksandrovac and is accessible to visitors. An adjacent historical graveyard forms part of the complex and can also be visited.
The monastery underwent major reconstruction in the 1930s after centuries of decline. Its rededication took place on Elijah's feast day, marking a return to its former prominence.
