The Krasnodar Reservoir spans across extensive areas of Krasnodar Krai, serving as a major water management facility for the surrounding agricultural regions.

Construction of the reservoir began in 1966 following a 1954 Soviet government decree, requiring the relocation of 15,749 people from their original settlements.

The reservoir's creation led to the establishment of an annual remembrance day on July 22nd to commemorate the submerged villages and their former inhabitants.

The water body provides irrigation for regional farming, controls flooding in surrounding areas, and offers opportunities for fishing and recreational activities.

Archaeological excavations near the reservoir reveal ancient artifacts from the Bronze Age, including mammoth bones and Golden Horde coins beneath the water.
