Al-Marqab Fortress is a circular, conical fortification perched atop Mount Munaikh, overlooking the city from the western side. Two towers are connected by a spiral staircase, with the inner tower containing a 12-step staircase to the summit where guards maintained watch.

Construction of the fortress began in 820 AH during the 9th century of the Hijra to protect Majmaah after its founding by Abdullah bin Saif Al-Shamari. In 1238 AH, Imam Turki bin Abdullah entered the fortress and removed the ruling leader, causing a major political shift in the region.

The fortress displays regional building methods, constructed with locally quarried stone and clay materials. The craftsmanship is evident in how materials were fitted together to create a durable structure.

The best view of the fortress is from below, where you can see the structure and towers clearly. Climbing to the summit involves stair climbing, so plan for comfortable shoes and allow some time.

The fortress served not just as a defensive structure but also as an administrative hub where ammunition and supplies were stored. This dual function made it a crucial point for controlling the city and surrounding areas.
