قلعة المرقب

The circular conical fortress sits atop Mount Munaikh, overlooking the city from the western side with two towers connected by a spiral staircase.

Construction of the fortress began in 820 AH during the ninth century Hijri to protect Majmaah city after its establishment by Abdullah bin Saif Al-Shamari.

The fortress represents a key element of regional defensive architecture, built using local stone blocks and clay materials arranged in specific patterns.

The inner tower contains a 12-step staircase leading to the summit, where guards maintained surveillance and stored ammunition in dedicated chambers.

In 1238 AH, Imam Turki bin Abdullah entered the fortress and removed the ruler of Majmaah, marking a significant political shift in the region.
