Triglav Lodge at Kredarica, Mountain hut in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia
The Triglav Lodge sits on the Kredarica plateau at 2515 meters elevation and accommodates roughly 350 guests directly beneath Slovenia's highest peak. The building houses sleeping quarters, a kitchen, and common areas designed for climbers and hikers.
The shelter was built in 1896 at Jakob Aljaž's initiative to protect mountain climbers on Triglav. It was expanded multiple times during the 20th century to keep pace with growing visitor numbers.
The lodge houses a year-round weather station where scientists conduct daily observations and record climate changes in the region. Visitors can learn about this work and understand why this location matters for Slovenia's weather forecasting.
The lodge is reachable via hiking trails from the Krma, Pokljuka, and Vrata valleys, with each route taking about five hours. Visitors should bring proper gear, sturdy footwear, and weatherproof clothing since conditions change rapidly at this elevation.
The shelter receives supply deliveries by helicopter since its remote location makes other resupply methods impractical. This aerial supply method is one of the few ways to sustain the permanent residents and guests at this extreme altitude.
