Pokrovske, village in Ochakiv Raion (district), Mykolaiv Oblast (province), Ukraine
Pokrovske is a small village on the northern edge of the Kinburn Spit near the Dnipro estuary. It features flat terrain and water channels, with simple brick and wooden houses, unpaved roads, and fields extending to its edges.
The village sits beside a fortress built by Turkish rulers in the 15th century that once defended against invasions. Russian forces captured it in 1774 and later constructed a wooden church dedicated to the Intercession of the Virgin Mary, which remains one of the village's oldest structures today.
The name Pokrovske means "Protection" and refers to a religious celebration honoring the Virgin Mary. Local residents maintain traditional ways of life rooted in fishing and farming that remain visible in their daily routines today.
The village is accessible via unpaved roads from Ochakiv. Visitors can hire small boats to explore the nearby Kinburn Spit and surrounding waters, which offers the best way to experience the area's natural features.
The village sits within the Biloberezhia Sviatoslav National Park, a protected area known for rare bird species and water plants. This natural setting makes it an important location for birdwatchers and those interested in understanding Ukraine's coastal ecosystems.
