Frederick County, Administrative county in Maryland, US
Frederick County extends across 667 square miles between the Piedmont Plateau Region and Appalachian Mountains, containing both Catoctin Mountain and South Mountain ranges.
The county division in 1776 resulted in the creation of Washington County in the west and Montgomery County in the south, with Frederick retaining the northern portion.
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine and Monocacy National Battlefield preserve the region's significant military and medical heritage from the American Civil War period.
Fort Detrick, the largest employer in Frederick County, houses the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and multiple biomedical research facilities.
The county maintains its position as Maryland's primary dairy producer, contributing one-third of the state's total milk production through local farming operations.
