Marriott World Trade Center, Former hotel in Manhattan

The Marriott World Trade Center was a 22-story building with over 800 rooms located within the original World Trade Center complex in Manhattan. The steel-frame structure housed a fitness center, swimming pool, and two restaurants, one offering views of the towers through a large skylight.

The building opened in 1981 as the Vista International Hotel and was purchased by Marriott in 1995. Following severe damage from the 1993 bombing, it was reinforced and reopened in 1994 before being destroyed on September 11, 2001.

The hotel was one of the first major businesses established below Canal Street since the 1800s, helping open the World Trade Center area to international travelers. Its lobby featured nautical-themed decor that made it stand out from typical financial district hotels.

The building was completely demolished in 2002 to make space for the memorial and new development, so no physical structure remains on site today. Visitors can explore the memorial area, which features exhibits and artifacts related to the site's history.

After the towers collapsed, firefighters used the partially intact lobby as a shelter while rescue teams searched for survivors. A famous photograph of firefighters raising an American flag was taken near the former hotel location and became a symbol of hope for many people.
