NBC Studios, Television studio at Rockefeller Plaza, Manhattan, United States
The studio occupies several floors of an Art Deco skyscraper and uses nine separate production spaces for different formats. Rooms range from compact areas for news programs to large stages with seating for several hundred audience members.
The facility started operating in the early 1930s when radio broadcasters first used the spaces for their programs. With the rise of television, the facility was adapted and has since served as a recording location for numerous shows.
Studio 8H, initially built as the largest radio studio, transformed into the permanent home of Saturday Night Live in 1975, maintaining this status.
The entrances are located on Sixth Avenue and can be reached through Rockefeller Center subway station. Guided tours run regularly and show parts of the production areas as well as the technology behind the scenes.
A special area is dedicated to producing props and signs that are custom-made for all productions. The in-house workshops use traditional and modern methods to realize every detail of the shows.
