Top of the Rock, Observation deck at Rockefeller Center, Manhattan, US
Top of the Rock is a public viewing platform at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in central Manhattan. The facility spreads across three levels and offers views in all directions from roughly 850 feet above ground.
The viewing platform opened in 1933 during the economic downturn and closed in 1986 for operational reasons. After thorough renovations, it reopened in 2005 with technical upgrades throughout.
Visitors can see major New York landmarks including Central Park, the Empire State Building, and the Hudson River from multiple indoor and outdoor viewing platforms.
Access is available daily from 9 in the morning until midnight, with advance booking recommended for preferred times. The platform remains open in rain, with covered sections providing shelter.
The three levels use transparent safety walls instead of glass, so cameras can point directly at the city without glare or reflections. This design was chosen to give visitors clearer shots of the skyline.
