Casa Paoli, Neoclassical museum in Ponce, Puerto Rico
Casa Paoli is a neoclassical building in Ponce featuring detailed woodwork and decorative elements across its brick and stucco facade. Architect Manuel V. Domenech designed it in 1914 to showcase fine craftsmanship and classical proportions.
The house was built before 1864 and served as the birthplace of Antonio Paoli, who became an internationally recognized tenor. He earned the title 'King of Tenors' during his celebrated opera career.
The building now operates as a research center displaying photographs and objects from Puerto Rican history and traditions. Visitors can explore how local heritage is preserved and studied in this space.
Inside, multiple exhibition rooms display personal correspondence, photographs, and items related to Paoli's international opera career. The spaces are arranged to guide visitors through different aspects of his life and work.
The residence was originally a wedding gift that housed eight children while providing young Antonio with direct access to Teatro La Perla nearby. This proximity allowed him to first experience opera and discover his calling.
