Concha Acústica de Ponce, Open-air theatre in Parque de la Abolición, Ponce, Puerto Rico.
The Concha Acústica de Ponce is a concrete amphitheater with semi-circular bench seating designed to hold around 2,000 spectators. The venue's acoustic design allows outdoor performances to be heard clearly throughout the space.
The amphitheater received its current design in 1956 when architect Francisco Porrata-Doría redesigned it as part of a larger public space project. This transformation turned the location into an important center for public gatherings and cultural events.
The marble stage displays six relief sculptures honoring musicians from Ponce such as Juan Morel Campos and Antonio Paoli, figures who shaped local music history. These tributes reflect the city's role as an artistic center and its connection to generations of performers.
The venue is located in Parque de la Abolición and is accessible Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM under municipal management. The bench seating is arranged to offer good sightlines to the stage from throughout the amphitheater.
The amphitheater shares its block with the Monument to the Abolition of Slavery, bringing together two distinct public functions in a single spatial composition. This arrangement creates a place where cultural events take place alongside a historical memorial.
