Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic house of worship featuring brick masonry and elaborate neo-Gothic design throughout. The interior showcases slender columns reaching toward the vault while large windows flood the space with natural light.

Construction began in 1864 under architect Jeremiah O'Rourke and the building was partly in use for its first Mass in 1866, with full completion extending over subsequent years. The cathedral gradually took its final form as work progressed over the following decades.

The cathedral serves as the spiritual center of the Diocese and hosts weddings, baptisms, and other religious celebrations throughout the year. Visitors and residents alike come to pray or spend quiet moments within its walls, making it an important gathering place for the community.

The cathedral is located in downtown Camden and is easy to reach by walking through the central streets. Visitors can attend regular masses or enter at most times for quiet prayer, with doors typically open throughout the day.

The building was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, recognizing its architectural merit and historical value. This protection ensures the structure is preserved as an important landmark for future generations.
