Hellbrunner Berg, Mountain peak near Salzburg, Austria
Hellbrunner Berg is a mountain peak approximately 515 meters high located south of Salzburg's Old City with stone theater structures on its slopes. These built forms create natural viewing areas and spaces for visitors to experience the landscape and surrounding vistas.
During medieval times the peak was called Tiergartenberg due to hunting activities in the area before Markus Sittikus renamed it Waldemsberg. The name changed again later to become what it is called today.
The stone theater on the slope reflects a long tradition of outdoor performances linked to the nearby Hellbrunn Palace and its gardens. The site shows how people have gathered here for entertainment and cultural activities over time.
The summit can be reached via a T1 hiking trail suitable for various fitness levels with several rest points along the way. Accessible sections are available throughout for visitors with mobility needs who want to experience parts of the mountain.
The peak ranks as the fourth most prominent among Salzburg's mountains and offers views down to Schloss Hellbrunn with its elaborate water features. This vantage point gives visitors a distinctive angle for observing the palace's baroque water works from above.
