Hellbrunn Palace, Baroque palace and museum in Salzburg, Austria.

Hellbrunn Palace is a Baroque estate from the 1600s that combines Italian-designed gardens with ornate rooms and elaborate water fountains throughout the grounds. The complex spreads across landscaped areas filled with carefully planned fountains and water features.

An Italian architect designed and built the palace between 1613 and 1615 for a Salzburg prince-bishop seeking a summer retreat. The construction was inspired by Italian Baroque style and served as a showcase of European connections.

The palace showcases the power of Salzburg's prince-bishops who wanted to display their wealth through Italian artistic traditions. Visitors can see how frescoes and furnishings still reflect the prosperity these religious rulers once commanded.

Guided tours are available in several languages during the warmer months from spring through fall. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are large and walking covers multiple paths through gardens and fountains.

The palace is famous for hidden water fountains that have surprised and splashed visitors for 400 years. These playful water devices were part of the original design and still operate using the same principles today.
