Court Cabinett of Natural Objects, Natural sciences museum in Innere Stadt, Vienna, Austria
The Court Cabinet of Natural Objects contains extensive mineral collections, fossils, and natural specimens within the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien building complex.
Emperor Franz Stephan of Lorraine established the institution in 1748 through the acquisition of Johann Ritter von Baillou's substantial natural science collection.
The museum transformed from a royal collection into a research institution where scientists and volunteers collaborated to advance natural sciences knowledge.
The collections transferred from the Hofburg palace to their current location in 1889 when the Natural History Museum building opened its doors.
A 6.2-kilogram platinum nugget, gifted by Prince Anatolij Nikolajewitsch Demidoff in 1859, represents one of the institution's most notable mineral specimens.
