Museum of Sarajevo

The Museum of Sarajevo houses comprehensive collections of archaeological artifacts, ethnographic exhibits, and historical documents spanning from ancient civilizations through the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods to modern times.

Established in 1949 and officially opened to the public in 1984, the museum has served as a key repository for documenting Sarajevo's complex history including the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the 1990s siege.

The museum celebrates Sarajevo's multicultural heritage through exhibits showcasing Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and Yugoslav influences while preserving traditional clothing, household objects, and religious artifacts from various ethnic communities.

Located at Gazi Husrev-begova 49 in the city center, the museum operates Tuesday through Sunday with modest entry fees around 8 KM and offers guided tours and educational programs for visitors.

The museum features an immersive virtual reality experience recreating the 1914 assassination of Franz Ferdinand, allowing visitors to follow the timeline of events that triggered World War I through interactive multimedia presentations.
