Church of Santiago, Cáceres, Gothic church in Cáceres, Spain
The Church of Santiago features two entrance doors with pointed arches, massive buttresses with medallions, and fluted columns connected by semicircular arches.
Built in the 12th century, the church underwent substantial restoration in the 16th century under master architect Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, who incorporated Renaissance elements.
The main altarpiece, commissioned in 1557 to sculptor Alonso de Berruguete, displays high-relief figures against painted backgrounds within Renaissance-style metalwork.
Located at Plaza de Santiago 10, the church offers religious services at different times during winter (October-April) and summer (May-September) seasons.
The church houses the statue of Jesus Nazareno, carved in Seville in 1609 by Tomás de la Huerta, and Saint Jude Thaddeus, both receiving local veneration.
