Edificio Simeón, Grand hotel in Plaza Santa Ana, Madrid, Spain
The Edificio Simeón occupies a corner of Plaza Santa Ana with an octagonal covered courtyard and a circular turret topped with columns. Commercial spaces fill the first two floors, while upper levels contain the ME Madrid hotel operated by the Meliá chain.
Built in 1923, the structure replaced the former Palace of the Counts of Montijo and was designed by architect Jesús Carrasco y Encina. It was conceived as a mixed-use building combining commercial and hotel functions for this central Madrid location.
The building became known as Hotel de los Toreros, where bullfighters stayed before their performances at the city's arena. This connection to the bullfighting world shaped the place's identity for many years.
Ground floor shops open directly onto Plaza Santa Ana, while the hotel entrance is typically accessed from a separate facade. Keep in mind that upper levels belong to the private hotel area and access is restricted to hotel guests.
The rooftop Penthouse bar offers private lounge areas and sunbeds with expansive views across central Madrid. From this elevated spot, you can observe the surrounding roofscape and historic towers, making it a preferred place to watch the sunset.
