Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Mérida, Modern conference center in Mérida, Spain
The Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Mérida is a modern conference center with multiple levels containing large auditoriums, exhibition areas, and meeting rooms. The building spans approximately 9,600 square meters and allows different sections to operate independently.
The center opened in 2004 following a design by architects Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano. It was created as part of an effort to establish Mérida as a major venue for conferences and events.
The exterior walls feature concrete panels decorated with patterns inspired by aerial photographs of the city. This artistic design creates a visual connection between the building and its local surroundings.
The main auditorium seats around 1,000 people with adjustable seating to support good acoustics. The building layout allows multiple areas to operate simultaneously for different events or gatherings.
The building sits between the Iron Bridge and the Lusitania Bridge along the Guadiana River. Its raised terrace offers views toward the historic center of the city across the water.
