Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Contrueces, Religious sanctuary in Contrueces district, Gijón, Spain
The sanctuary features a single nave design with a prominent dome, surrounded by fortress-like walls that enclose the religious complex.
The original church on this site dates back to 905, while the present Herrerian-style structure was built between 1638 and 1660.
The sanctuary maintains regular religious services and holds major celebrations on August 15th, including the traditional 'ofrenda del ramu' ceremony.
The sanctuary remains open to visitors throughout the year and provides parking facilities within walking distance from the main entrance.
The image of the Virgin disappeared for fifteen days in June 1970 before being returned anonymously to the sanctuary.
