Església i Palau del Temple, Neoclassical church and palace in Ciutat Vella, Valencia, Spain.
The Església i Palau del Temple is a neoclassical church and palace in Valencia's old town, marked by a restrained facade with Corinthian columns and a central dome. Natural light from the dome fills the interior spaces, creating bright and open areas throughout the structure.
Construction of this religious complex started in 1761 under King Charles III's order and progressed in stages. The church was completed in 1770, with the full complex finished by 1785.
This site housed the Order of Montesa and now serves as administrative offices for the Valencian region. The blend of religious and governmental uses shows how historical spaces adapt to new purposes over time.
The building sits on Plaza del Temple 2 in the old town near other historical sites, making it easy to explore multiple places in one area. Keep in mind that this is an active government office, so not all areas may be open to visitors at all times.
The Chapel of Communion contains exceptional marble work and architectural details inspired by Michelangelo's design principles. Visitors often overlook this intimate space despite it being one of the most refined areas inside.
