Dolmen de Ca na Costa, Prehistoric burial site in Formentera, Spain.
Dolmen de Ca na Costa is a megalithic burial chamber on Formentera island. The structure consists of a central chamber formed by six tall limestone blocks arranged in an elliptical pattern, enclosed by three concentric rings of stones.
This burial chamber was built between 2040 and 1740 BCE during the Bronze Age. The tomb contained the remains of eight individuals along with ceramic vessels and ornaments.
The discovery of Ca na Costa dolmen in 1974 changed understanding of Formentera's early settlement, proving human presence predated previously known Punic civilization.
The archaeological site is located between La Savina and Es Pujols near Estany Pudent lagoon, accessible via the Pm-V-820-2 road around kilometer 3. The outdoor setting is easy to navigate on foot once you arrive at the location.
The entrance corridor of the grave features parallel stone rows that gradually widen toward the interior, concluding with a rectangular stone aperture. This carefully designed passage reflects skilled stonework by the Bronze Age builders.
