Anchuricas Reservoir, pantano localizado en la provincia de Jaén, en el cauce del río Segura
Anchuricas Reservoir is a water storage lake in the Sierra de Segura valley in Jaén Province, fed by the Segura River. It is surrounded by tall mountains, pine forests, and rocky hills, stretching roughly four to five kilometers in length.
The reservoir was built in 1957 as a buttress dam to store water for a hydroelectric plant called Miller. Its construction flooded the nearby village of Las Casicas, leaving only the old church above the water level.
The old village of Las Casicas was flooded in 1957 when the dam was built, but its church still stands on a hill above the water. It serves as a reminder of the families who once lived here and worked the surrounding land.
The reservoir is best visited on sunny days when the water colors and mountain views are most striking. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as there is limited shade along the paths and you will spend time exposed to the sun.
Beneath the water surface lie the remains of the old settlement of Las Casicas, submerged when the dam was built. Birds of prey such as griffon vultures regularly soar overhead hunting for food, making it a rewarding spot for wildlife watchers.
